Most senior finance moves start with a search, not an application

What we look for first, and why the profile matters as much as the document

In a poll of 121 finance hiring managers, 52% said role alignment is the first thing they look for in a CV and 39% said impact. Longevity came in at 4% and similar industry experience at 3%. The top third of the document has to read as someone who can do that role, and the achievements are what confirm it.

Discovery works differently again. A CV is only ever seen by the people you send it to, which is five to twenty a week at best. An optimised LinkedIn profile can be viewed by hundreds of recruiters and internal talent teams in the same week, because a search runs on the technical language in your headline, About, Experience and Skills sections. Carry the terms a client actually briefs us on and you surface on page one. Carry none of them and you are past page fifty.
